During the summer, I joined a Tech Challenge through ThingLink. I learned a lot, and hopefully, I will be able to share this with my students. If you want to see my classroom tour that I created during the challenge, click on the following link: www.thinglink.com/video/942091224880250883
I am rejuvenated and ready to start the new school year. My room has been ready to go since June, so the first few days should be a breeze. My classroom is full of inspiration for my students and information to help them succeed. During the summer, I joined a Tech Challenge through ThingLink. The first few days, we will Meet & Greet, go over rules, and begin our first writing assignment. The students will be creating a self portrait with zentangles. I am hoping to learn about my students and have some interesting art to dress-up my whiteboard. I'll keep you posted.

I am not sure what happened to the 2016-2017 year, but I didn't post anything. I am truly sorry for that . It was a crazy year, and I loved my students. Here are a couple pictures of these awesome kiddos. I am changing things up this year. New theme, new activities, and a new novel--Diary of Ann Frank, which is an old novel, but it is a great story, which I hope leads our class into some wonderful discussions and research projects. At this time (6/16/15), I am planning to go with a Hollywood Theme because I know I am going to have a class full of Super Stars!!!! The students first moment to shine will be when they create their finger print story. Due to the fact that no two finger prints are the same, none of the stories should be the same either. Above you can see the tree that grew over the summer in my classroom. In addition, I added a carpet and two bean bags for the students to use while reading. I am trying to inspire independent reading. I hope it works. The only catch to using this area is that the students have to have their work done and a library book. My husband and I are back from our latest adventures in Mexico, and I am total rejuvenated. I am tanned and well rested, so I can keep up with the new group of kiddos coming up to the 7th grade. To be quite honest, I am excited for another school year to start. I've had my room ready since the end of May. I am trying to go with a calmer palette this year. I am also going with a new seating arrangement. Instead of rows, I am trying a horseshoe shape. I hope I don't regret this, but it give us a little more room to move around. I have also created a reading zone, but students must have a library book to use this area. I'll keep you posted how things go. Finally, my classroom is ready to go! I have been to the beach twice this summer, and I am having withdraw symptoms. Thus, the theme for my classroom--the BEACH. I have a huge mural of the sand, palm trees, and the blue ocean water. In addition, I have a lounge chair for the students to sit in. But this privilege has to be earned. The students that do not earn any check-marks for talking will earn a ticket. I will draw a ticket every day for each class. The student that is drawn will be allowed to sit in the lounge chair. This is a more immediate reward for good behavior. Don't worry, I will still bring treats from home for the students without any marks.
I have also created more bulletin boards to display the students' work. I hope to have some work up soon! I am also utilizing interactive notebooks this year. Students will create pages to help study different concepts for reading and writing better. We will begin the very first week working on these notebooks. That is why it is so important to have the composition notebooks. I will have a few in school for students to purchase. I am excited about the new school year. I hope the students are too!!!! My students have stepped up to the plate and hit a home run. All my students passed the Kansas State Reading Assessment. 24 spectacular students scored in Exemplary 28 fantastic students scored in Exceeds 15 marvelous students scored in Meets I am very proud of these students. They have worked very hard. I also want to thank all the parents that helped with our Pre-assessment Party. The pizza and treats were a great hit. I don't know if your students shared with you that we watched Monsters, Inc. to help students brainstorm monsters for their monster vignettes. I'll post some pictures of the creatures they create. My room is very bedazzled right now. I made my last purchases for my classroom last night--a printer/scanner, so that my student may make copies in my room. In addition, the students will be able to use it when the printer with the cart is being cantankerous. I also bought some brain food. It is one thing I can't do without. I sure hope my students are excited as I am. It is going to be a great year. Go Panthers!!!!!!! I am busy creating a writing center for my students for next year. I am trying to create an area that is all theirs, so that they take ownership of their writing. My plan is to cover the large cabinet with white board contact paper for the students to leave notes and ideas for other students that they are working with. I will also add a cork board for them to pin up ideas. Inside the cabinet will be writing supplies, camera, dictionary, and thesaurus. I have a homey carpet to go on the floor. All I need now is to find a PC for the students to work on. I know that when I talk to our computer goddess--Mrs. Hainey, she will be able to help us out. I am also going to bring my printer from home, so that we don't have the printing issues we had last year. OMG-it is horrible when technology doesn't work.
The bulletin board already has a filing system that the students will be able to utilize. Now, I just need to come up with a neat bulletin board for the writing center. When I get it done, I'll post some pictures. We have been out of school for about two week, and I am already back to planning for next year. So many ideas are running through my head. I hope my students are ready for next year. Enjoy the rest of your summer!
